Do you deal with low self esteem? Do you find it difficult to express yourself with confidence in front of others? Well, for a good amount of time in my life I’ve also been that way but if you ask me today then I am in a profession where lack of confidence is lethal. Because, as a professor if you aren’t confident with what you are presenting and how you are presenting it to your students you won’t survive.

You are answerable to plenty here and you are potentially responsible for the future of the students. Not only about my profession as a professor, other professions as well ultimately need a lot of confidence and self esteem because in every field at some point we have got to either present, explain or sell something to some people and all of this needs a lot of confidence as we won’t make it in our respective fields.

As an author and a professor who has taught so many classes and been into so many speaking engagement sessions, I have figured out a few points which I felt like helped me the most during my journey from being an inferior to a confident presenter.

So, here are a few crucial things that you can keep in mind which will surely help you to gain more confidence in life and have a higher self esteem.

Figure out what is average

In our daily lives we see a lot of people around us whom we don’t like. It is either because of their nature, behavior or it’s that they have certain personality traits which are really unlikable. Those are the people that you have to consider as average and you have to make sure that you have to be better than them at any cost.

If they are being careless about the way they talk then make sure you develop a certain way of talking that doesn’t match with them at all. Make sure you don’t sound that way.

If they are being bad behaved then notice those points that they are doing wrong and make sure to not have those things in your behavior.

You find people not being careful about their body and health and not appearing properly then make sure you don’t stay that way and appear careless & lazy in front of others.

All that I am saying is that you have to learn what NOT to do from the average people around you. All the things that you do not like about others should not be in you at all.

This will give you a sense of being better than them in certain areas. When you feel that way then you’ll end up being naturally confident about yourself because now you are aware of the points at which you are better than other people around you.

This sense of having something in you that other people do not have is a natural confidence booster and helps your mind to feel better about yourself. This is how you train your brain to focus on being better by making sure what to keep out of the mind.

Remember I am not asking you to compare yourself to others. That is a toxic trait that you need to avoid. All I am asking is for you to learn from your surroundings. If you like any trait of any person around you which could be a good addition in your personality then surely add it as well. Learn the good traits and eliminate the ones which are bad and you have free access to find these good and bad traits from the people around you. So no comparison, only observation for self development.

Focus on your USP

See, here is the thing. We all have something unique in us and at some corner in our mind we are also proud of it. It’s good. You should always be proud of your uniqueness and positive aspects.

When you know that there are a few unique things that you have which others around you do not possess then make those things your strength. Make sure you add your unique selling points in your presentations whenever you go out there and represent yourself.

Let’s take a fun example. You must have wretched Superman right? Who is that guy who becomes superman whenever it’s needed? It’s Clark Kent. But for the world Clark Kent is just an ordinary journalist who stays simple and lives a lowkey life. For the world Clark Kent is a nobody but for the same world Superman is their savior.

Clark knows he is unique. He brings out that uniqueness or we can say his superpowers whenever it’s required.

Same like that, you know deep down what are your strengths and how you can utilize them.

I have a unique way of teaching that somehow I relate everything with the simplest possible example that I can give and I utilize that strength to explain my points to my students and help them remember things better with that example. So that’s what I focus on whenever I teach or present anything.

So, when you play with your uniqueness and with your strengths you naturally become more confident because utilizing what you have and others don’t makes you feel different from everyone around you and you feel more valued. Ultimately the feeling of being valued results in more confidence & higher self esteem.

Feed the process well

You know what they say about fitness. It’s 60% nutrition & 40% workout ratio that needs to be maintained in order to keep an amazingly healthy body.

Here, that nutrition is the thoughts that you feed in your mind which helps in developing a confident mindset. The more negatively you think of yourself the worse nutrients in the form of thoughts you’d be giving to your mind.

Avoid negative self-talk, avoid being around people who make you feel valueless and stop bothering about other people’s judgment about you.

Feed your mind with as much goodness as you can. For body fitness there are supplements like protein shakes, energy drinks and much more. Similar to that you need to provide your mind with supplements like reading good books & articles. Watching good videos enhances your perspective and helps you think better. Practice positive self talk and go on regular solo walks to develop better decision making capabilities.

The more you feed your mind with goodness the more it will filter out the things that are stopping you from growing in your life and have more confidence in you.

Key Takeaways

The world is getting competitive day by day and things like humility and kindness are slowly getting extinct from human beings. Let’s not be a part of such a crowd that has nothing to give back to society. Let’s be on the brighter side together. But, for that you need to consider yourself as an impactful person and unleash your confident side.

To gain more confidence you’ve got to be willing to rely on your uniqueness and talents. Work on your representation, add & remove the traits as per the need for being a more confident person. Lastly, remember to feed your mind with the right thoughts and content that will ultimately shape your thinking & help you to be better in life by enhancing your point of views and making you more confident.
