We all are somewhere in the middle of our journeys. No matter how far we have come to achieve the goals we always see a scope of improvement in us. That’s normal because as humans we are bound by our thoughts to strive to be better every day. But whenever time changes and we witness new potential opportunities for us we seek to increase our chances to capitalize on those opportunities. Sometimes we take it too far and we often end up with the fear of missing out, commonly termed as FOMO. Getting into such a situation can be very self-harming and the common things that we do in that phase sometimes add nothing to our life instead of draining our true potential.

So here are a few things that are the toxic traits that you are possibly following and it is draining your true potential.

Trying to be perfect

Nobody wants their work to turn out bad. But, in attempts to give your best to the things that you do you often go too much into the details. I can understand that you don’t want anyone to find any margins for errors in your work. But if that is leading you to give an enormous amount of time & energy to just one task then ask yourself if it’s worth it?

There is a common saying in the literary world that “A book is never complete.”
That’s true. If you keep on giving too much time to perfect every single piece of your work then you’ll end up doing much less work concerning your true potential.

It’s important to give your best at work and come up with your best. But knowing when to stop the work is more important. Writers trying to edit too much of their book. Designers think that the detailing could be better. Coders think that programs can be more optimized. These are all prominent examples of people underestimating the value of their good work in search of perfection.

So, the next time you find yourself holding a good piece of work right before delivery. Don’tthink too much about how it can be better. Because if you kept your thoughts stuck to that then you might never be able to focus on other important aspects of your life.

Comparing yourself to others

Comparing yourself to others is another form of wasting your true potential. You never know what one has to go through to get to a place where they are at. You can’t simply estimate how easy or hard it was for them to be who they are today.

If you compare your life with others then you are simply degrading your value. Yes, because instead of celebrating your uniqueness and your progress you are more focused on thinking about how far others have gone. Meanwhile, the ones you are comparing yourself to might not even bother about your existence. It’s harsh but it’s a fact.

Never think about someone else and their success or downfall. Because one of the most negative things that you can add to your personality is the toxic trait of comparing yourself to others all the time.

Be so focused on decorating your life that you don’t even have time to think about what surrounds you.

Seeking constant approval from others

Whatever makes you happy doesn’t have to make sense to others. So, if you do anything by your choice then that’s where you shouldn’t be bothered about how others will feel about it.

I’m sure if it’s something that makes you happy that means it isn’t gonna do any bad to anyone. You are allowed to choose happiness in your life without bothering about how others feel about it.

No big person ever made history without going in the opposite direction of the wind. So if your choices don’t make sense to others then trust me it doesn’t have to. As long as your choice doesn’t involve hurting someone else or damaging anyone’s life, you are in the right direction.

There will be a lot of people, your family, friends or teachers who will tell you that you are making a wrong move in your life. But if you are confident about the thing that you can make it then there is no point in stopping yourself. Stand by what seems right to you and don’t pay attention to the ones trying to tell you that it’s wrong.

Key Takeaway

You have so much power within you that you haven’t yet unleashed. You can move mountains and you can break rocks. It’s just you have to be selective in your thoughts. We all have positives and negatives in ourselves but it’s the matter of what we feed more as that turns out to be our governing energy.

So to sum up everything that has been stated so far, to unleash your true potential. Avoid thinking too much about perfection because improvement and learning are never-ending in life. Don’t ever compare your life to someone else’s because you have your journey to care about and not theirs. Don’t pay mind to those who don’t want to see you standing by your choices. They are probably afraid to see you succeed or don’t want to see you doing good in life.
